In 2019, we supported the Save a Child's Heart International Humanitarian Charity that provides life-saving heart treatment and follow-up care for children from developing countries that do not have adequate access to care in their own countries. Since opening in 1995, Save a Child’s Heart has treated over 5,100 children suffering from congenital and rheumatic heart disease.
Save a Child’s Heart sends medical teams to partner sites around the world in order to diagnose, teach and perform life-saving heart surgery.
On 16th November 2019, Save a Child’s Heart medical team travelled to The Children Cardiac Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to perform life-saving heart surgery and catheterisations on local children. The team worked together day and night to perform 9 open-heart surgeries and 22 life-saving catheterisations, as well as, screening and diagnosing 107 children and following up on past patients.
Since 1996, Save a Child's Heart has treated more than 700 children from Ethiopia and trained a paediatric cardiac surgeon, two anaesthetists, four paediatric cardiologists and two intensive care nurses, all of whom are now practising locally.
